Electrical Engineer

ThayerMahan is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to join our rapidly growing team. This person will be responsible for prototyping, integrating and iterating on PCBs, microcontrollers, embedded systems and the like. This person will work closely with our Director of Engineering to rapidly produce solutions to mission requirements.

An ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of work experience with a variety of projects they can speak about.

 
 Candidates must have experience in the following areas:
 
  • Design, fabrication and iteration of PCBs.
  • The ability to exclusively own a product from design to finished assembly and testing with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in design using microcontrollers and embedded systems including design and programming.
  • The abilities to consider size, weight and power of components and sub-systems and optimize them accordingly.
 
A well-qualified candidate will have additional experience in at least one of the following areas:
 
  • RF circuit design in the HF to UHF spectrum.
  • FPGA (preferably Xilinx) design and implementation.
  • Experience designing high-grade GPS systems from the ground up.
  • Significant experience using standard communications systems at a low level (Ethernet, RS-232/485, Modbus, Profibus etc…).
  • High-accuracy motion control and inverse kinematics (such as Stewart platforms).
 
A well-qualified candidate will have the following skills and should feel comfortable with any of the following:
 
  • Soldering, including hot air rework, BGA and surface mount components.
  • Experience in either Altium Designer or KiCad is required.
  • Test equipment such as spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers.
  • Designing and implementing custom testing hardware to validate systems they have designed.
  • Experience in C/C++ for microcontrollers.
  • Experience in low-power linux embedded systems.
 
Candidates will be expected to pass and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level or better.
