ThayerMahan To Open Mid-Atlantic Location in Virginia Beach
Company Will Receive EDIP Grant to Support Job Creation in Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach, Va. – October 19, 2023 – The Virginia Beach Development Authority (VBDA) has approved ThayerMahan to receive an Economic Development Investment Program (EDIP) grant for $130,000. The funds will go toward supporting job creation at ThayerMahan's new Virginia Beach location which will begin operations in the City and Region this year.
ThayerMahan holds several patented designs that provide advanced services in autonomous maritime systems for government and commercial customers. Headquartered in Groton, CT, the company will open a location in Virginia Beach and utilize pier and warehouse space at Fairwinds Landing in Norfolk. This move will create 40 new high-wage jobs based in the City of Virginia Beach.
ThayerMahan provides sophisticated services for maritime, defense, and offshore renewable industries including high-resolution seabed surveys, UXO classification and removal, noise mitigation and monitoring, commercial monitoring, and marine mammal monitoring. The positions that will be hired in Virginia Beach reflect the company's advanced technical capabilities, with focuses on electrical and mechanical engineering, computer sciences, acoustics and physics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, and research.
The company will work with prominent customers such as the United States Navy and Dominion Energy.
