From Navy to Industry: Michael Taylor’s Journey Through Auburn’s MEM Program

Discover how one veteran leveraged Auburn’s Master of Engineering Management to lead cutting-edge projects and inspire future engineers.

Michael Taylor, a Navy veteran and Auburn University alumnus, successfully transitioned from military service to a leadership role in the private sector thanks to Auburn's Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program. With a background in physics and 12 years of operational experience in the Navy, Taylor sought a program that would equip him to lead engineering teams and tackle complex civilian projects. The MEM program's systems-focused curriculum provided the versatility and technical depth he needed. Now a project manager at ThayerMahan, Taylor leads offshore acoustic programs supporting defense, energy, and environmental missions. He credits the MEM program's practical and flexible approach - and its supportive faculty - for helping him navigate the shift from military to industry leadership.
